As a cancer survivor Jon Lester is a big supporter of the RedSox Jimmy Fund activities. He visited Quinsigamond Community College yesterday to thank a group of supporters. According to the Worcester Telegram:
The school’s “Alpha Zeta Theta Cancer Fighters,” part of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, raised $2,620 for the Jimmy Fund.
Lester signed autographs and met with students at QCC. Lester was diagnosed with lymphoma back in August of 2006. After undergoing chemotherapy he was told he was cancer free December of 2006. This recovery appeared amazing from the outside but must have taken a great deal of courage and strength.
Though Lester has been struggling this year and was not elected to the All-Star team like Jason Bay about whom we wrote earlier. He pitched strongly in the game we went to see on Sunday against the Mariners. Though he officially didn’t get the win he pitched well.
Quinsigamond Community College is a 43 year old institution located on West Boylston St. in Worcester and primarily serves the residents of Central Massachusetts.
