Yes the rumors have finally been confirmed. After weeks of speculation the Telegram has confirmed that Tom Cruise will be filming part of the yet unnamed “Wichita” movie in Worcester. Even better they will be utilizing a currently underutilized Worcester Regional Airport. Cameron Diaz is also in the movie and will most likely be here as well.
The movie industry has been in Massachusetts in force since major tax breaks were made available to companies filming here. Most recently Surrogates was also filmed in Massachusetts with some scenes being filmed in Worcester. Surrogates stars Bruce Willis andis set to release this month on the 25th of September. I love Sci-Fi so I am greatly looking forward to it.
The Worcester Regional Airport was chosen because it is small and does not have the hassles associated with filming at a major airport. As discussed in a post about the Worcester Regional Airport it is going to be transferred to Massport and plans are under way to make more and better use of it. Until then I am sure there’s some money to be made using it for the movie industry. Filming at the airport is expected to start on September 15th and take a few days.
